Sunday 12 June: Simos beach
Not birds but barking dogs for our dawn chorus this morning! I certainly feel I deserve a day of rest after the challenges of yesterday’s cycle.
A pleasant breakfast on the terrace of our small Greek hotel before a short cycle to Simos beach: two crescent shaped beaches meeting at a small isthmus with golden sand and turquoise water reminiscent of the Caribbean. We are one of the first there and are pleased to bags an umbrella and sun beds on the edge at the front narrowly missing some sunbed rage! The beach is very wild and the taverna is a long walk through the dunes so we pretend not to baulk at the 30 euro charge for the day although that does include being brought iced coffee, a beer and a Greek salad later in the day. The water is so clear and there are occasional waves for a bit of body surfing. It gets very crowded as the day goes on but there seems to be room for everyone.
We pedal back to our cool balcony, of course. We’re thinking fish tonight…
